Lesbian DocLIST

Are you a lesbian or bisexual woman looking for a doctor you can feel comfortable with? Do you have a doctor who you would recommend to other bisexual or lesbian women?

DocLIST is a project of the Australian Lesbian Medical Association (ALMA) that aims to provide online list of doctors recommended by lesbian and bisexual women.

The project started in 2008 when organisers started collecting recommendations from lesbian and bisexual women patients after a need from the lesbian/bisexual community to find lesbian-friendly doctors in their area.

The website launched in 2010 with information about the project, a current list of doctors recommended for lesbian and bisexual women, plus details on how to recommend a doctor for inclusion in the project.

As of May 21, DocLIST includes a list of 31 doctors, including 21 general practitioners and 10 specialists across metropolitan and rural areas of Victoria. The specialists include several obstetricians and gynaecologists, as well as a breast specialist, an ophthalmologist, a psychiatrist and an addiction specialist.  The DocLIST project is being piloted in Victoria, and will roll out to other states and territories in October 2010.

To recommend a doctor you can go to www.doclist.com.au, or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the doctor’s name, area of medicine (e.g. GP, gynaecologist), contact details of the clinic, a line on why you are recommending them for the list, and your name (which will remain confidential).

Once the DocLIST team receives a recommendation they contact the doctor to ask if they consent to going on the list.  The doctor is not told who recommended them.  You can also help the DocLIST grow by letting your lesbian / bi women friends know about the project. To find out more, visit the website at www.doclist.com.au
