For some of us, this has been a particularly cold winter. If you hail from further north then you’re probably just warming to the idea of draping a winter layered look, donning long textured sleeves and strutting around in all manner of fabulous winter boots. If you’re from the southern climes multi-layering would have been the standard for well over a month now. Some may not be quite as enthusiastic about these things as I am, however I’m definitely relishing this cold snap! It’s a totally acceptable time to allow hedonism and self indulgence to reign forth and run free. Let’s eat and drink as much we please and use those layers to hide the consequences.

If you have decided upon a decadent night out, well, thankfully there is an abundance of great clothing available allowing you to maintain style and comfort in all sorts of textures, fabrics and layers. From leather, velvet, sheer fabrics, faux fur, a veritable smorgasbord has make its way onto the winter runways of 2010. And don’t think you need to be restricted to black. Other colours are making their winter debut with reds and crimsons being somewhat of a highlight. And even though black will always be the key tone for winter this season we will see it highlighted with white accessories from scarves to bags to shoes.

And as for footwear, there’s all manner of boots ranging in length from ankle to thigh and clogs are making a definite statement as a necessary item in winter shoes. We’re also seeing a ‘school girl’ look with socks and shoes making a definite comeback and it really doesn’t matter what style of dress or skirt you wear them with. Speaking of skirts there is a return to the A-line variety, a personal favourite, and very suitable for those with more curvaceous bodies.

Leather luxe seems to be the big hit, with designs reigning from leather suits, leather trenches and leather dresses. The trend is definitely towards the more glamorous, so make the most of dressing as it wont be long before we’re back to dressing down.
