I’m Quitting Facebook ... well, maybe!

I’m thinking of quitting Facebook! That’s right, you heard me. You see it’s really starting to bug me...only I didn’t realise until just today.

The very idea of getting home from work only to have to dedicate another hour of my day checking emails, updating websites and MySpace, and now the increasingly laborious task of having to sift through dozens of Facebook ‘requests’ and ‘invitations’ from hundreds of people I don’t even know is pushing my time management skills to the max. With all of this to contend with I might as well tack an extra hour on to my work day.

Not to mention getting caught up in people’s virtual lives. I even know when people I don’t know check into a gym or visit a restaurant – it all appears in their status (courtesy of iPhone) and comes through to me on a news feed. I feel like I’m stalking them. Accidentally of course.

But I’m a bit scared to actually do it. And that’s why I’m still only ‘thinking’ of quitting Facebook.

What if people can’t find me on Facebook? Will I virtually cease to exist? Will people think ‘good ol’ Feisty’s finally hung up her headphones ... she’s quit ... retired I think. She’s not on Facebook anymore!’

Clearly quitting Facebook has implications. And I’m not sure if I’m ready for that yet. So, at least for the meantime, I will remain a slave to social networking. But if I change my mind I’ll be sure to let you know ... via Facebook most likely!
