Who's your favourite Icon or Dykon?
| 18 March 2010
Warrnambool may be hundreds of kilometers from the nearest gay bar but that doesn’t mean the local queer community doesn’t know how to party, according to the Warrnambool Gay & Lesbian Party Network.
So the invitation has gone out to all party goers to come and see for themselves at The Party Network's next event, Icons & Dykons on April 10, dressed as their favourite gay or lesbian icon.
The party includes a bar, coffee in the chill out zone, guest DJ's including "Electric Kitten", performance artists, comedians, colourful costumes, prizes and even a mini-retail therapy experience with the Rainbow Warehouse.
The event doubles as The Party Network's annual fundraising event for the local gay and lesbian youth group, YUMCHA (Youth United Making Change Against Homophobic Attitudes).
In 2009, The Party Network raised $1,700 for YUMCHA including a banner to carry at this year's Pride March in Melbourne. This year's fundraising target is $2,000 with monies raised going towards YUMCHA T-Shirts and a camping trip for the group.
“It’s lovely to be able to provide the assistance we didn't have when we were coming out in South West Victoria," says Phoebe Adams of the Warrnambool Gay & Lesbian Party Network.
