Nikki Facchin: MOIST
CHERRIE chatted with new MOIST event-co-ordinator, Nikki Facchin.
When did you take over as event co-ordinator for MOIST?
I took over as coordinator of MOIST in early April 2010. I had also worked previously on the event as stage manager. Arq had approached me to see if I would like the position, as they knew I had an extensive background in the entertainment industry.
What's your background in the party scene?
My background in the Sydney party scene began many years ago when I was at school. I was always the one who threw outrageous parties that all the kids used to try to get an invite to. I loved putting on parties even back then. I have also trained as a dancer and spent 12 years at an academy as a youth. I started performing professionally when I was nine and worked for many big companies including Lend Lease, RAS and Disney just to name a few. I originally auditioned for Mardi Gras as a dancer 14 years ago. After performing in innumerable shows for them I was asked to be a member of the party committee; where I worked for almost two years. I was also on the entertainment sub-committee, helping to produce a lot of the shows at the parties. I was part of the committee that produced some of the biggest Mardi Gras’ parties ever- Sleaze ‘Atlantis’, the MG 20th anniversary (R)evolution, and a host of other functions for them. I also had my own production company and my own women’s nights at many of the Oxford Street venues like the Midnight Shift, and was in fact one of the first women to have my very own ‘show-based’ weekly Friday night in Sydney at Annie’s Bar drag Emporium. I had been involved in the drag industry and have previously been a judge for Diva and also Arq during the fabulous DKSY era.
What do you think of the girl’s club scene in Sydney?
I think the girl’s scene in Sydney has a lot of room to grow- a lot of promoters think that paying as little as possible to put on the same old shows in tired or unsuitable venues is ‘good enough’ for the female community. I believe the community deserve the very best we can offer them and Arq has the facilities to enable me to produce a high quality event within a lavish nightclub with state of the art lighting and sound, plenty of space and friendly staff.
What are your plans for MOIST so far?
I have a lot of big plans for MOIST, while still adhering to the original formula for the night created by the fabulous Sexy Galexy; a very good friend of mine. I plan to put on amazing, funny, camp and uber entertaining shows, showcasing both Sydney’s up and coming talent and our more established favourite performers. I plan to make this Sydney’s best and most entertaining women’s night. If you want to see the new MOIST come along on April 30, and see what I’m talking about.
